Massive drop in Terrorism since the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir

Share post:

On 5th August last year, Modi Government abrogated the infamous Article 370 and Article 35 A in Jammu and Kashmir. The erstwhile state was bifurcated into two separate Union Territories, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

It was said that this step will act like a hammer on Terrorism and reduce the ranks of Terrorist groups. Well, opposition parties like Congress, PDP and National Conference were accusing Government for no-action against Terrorism, however Data speaks something else.

Data speaks

As per the Government data, the number of Kashmiri youths joining terrorist groups has been dropped more than 40 per cent since the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A. The number of local youths who joined militancy fell to 67 between January 1 and July 15 this year, compared to 105 a year ago during the same time duration. Per this report, now only 5 local youths are joining Terrorist groups, as compared to the earlier rate of 14 per month.

It is also observed that terrorist related incidents declined to 120 from 188 during this period last year. We have lost 35 security forces personnel in the line of duty since January 1 2020, compared to 75 during the same duration last year.

Terrorist Groups hammered like never before

Our Security forces carried out coordinate missions to eliminate the Terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Islamic State of J&K and Ansar Ghazwat-ul Hind. It is observed the entire ranks of Hijbul and LeT has been killed by Security forces.

Several Districts made ‘Terror Free’

Several districts like Doda, Tral and Srinagar have been made ‘Terror Free’, as every single Terrorist has been killed in these districts. Our security forces have eliminated 136 militants this year, 110 were local Kashmiri and the rest all were from Pakistan.

There have been fewer improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and grenade attacks this year. The number of IED attacks have gone down as well, Only 1 IED attack has been reported this year, as compared to 6 in the year-ago period.

Public Burial of Terrorists gone down

It was said that large gatherings at funerals of militants, were used for recruitment of youths into militancy, have become a thing of the past as now only a handful of close relatives are seen at burial grounds. Now militants are buried in the presence of few close relatives. Whereas earlier such funerals of used to attract large crowd. From last couple of months, Security Forces have started a policy of not disclosing the names of Terrorists and to not handover their bodies to their relatives.

Operation Maa going in full swing

An innovative ‘Operation Maa’ was launched by Chinar Corps (15 Corps) of the Indian Army last year. The basic objective was to ensure that youth indulged into Terrorism by Pakistan-backed terror groups are brought back into the fold of mainstream society. Indian Army is counselling and rehabilitating only the local youth of the Valley who have chosen the path of Terrorism. Per data, more than 60 Local youth have been weaned away from Terrorism till now.

We are in opinion that abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A was a watershed moment for Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. This has impacted the State at several levels, we have seen the rise in peace, we can observe the massive reduction in Terrorism, cross border infiltration, lesser number of protests and stone pelting, lower morale of Hurriyat Conference and other political parties (PDP and National Conference) which were fanning the emotions of local kashmiri youth and making them against India. So, overall we would like to give full marks to Modi government for taking credible steps in Jammu and Kashmir, it will pave the way of Peaceful and Strong Jammu and Kashmir.
