Sonia and Rahul Gandhi to Pay Tribute to Balasheb Thackeray?

Rajiv Gandhi took over the charge of the Congress in 1984 following the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became India’s youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40.

Born on August 20 in 1944, he was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Shiv Sena under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray allied with the Sharad Pawar’s NCP and the Congress to form a “Maha Vikas Aghadi” government in Maharashtra. The question raised after this was done even Uddhav Thackeray hear the old interviews of Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray.

What one would still ponder is what was the compulsion for Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray to pay a floral tribute to Rajiv Gandhi, which was never done before by him.

Some Twitter users were quick enough to question this act if Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi would do the same and pay tribute to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.

Shiv Sena and Congress have been ideological opponents. In the year 1995, before the assembly elections, Thackeray formed a team with BJP leader Gopinath Munde and Sena leader Manohar Joshi. The trio had together launched a statewide campaign against Sharad Pawar and the Congress government. The campaign hit Pawar and the Congress government badly when the Shiv Sena and BJP alliance won 138 seats in the Assembly polls, post which Sharad Pawar was overthrown as the Chief Minister and was replaced by Manohar Joshi of the Shiv Sena.

While giving out a video message in November 2012, Bal Thackeray had called the then State government headed by CM Prithviraj Chavan and Central Government headed by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a ‘Cancer’. He said, “Overthrow the Congress governments in the state and at the Centre, which are a ‘cancer’.”

While criticising the sheer presence of Sonia Gandhi into politics, Bal Thackeray had stated that it will be a better idea to hand back the country to the British rather than Sonia Gandhi ruling the country. “’I would prefer handing back power to the British, who have at least experience of ruling the country for 150 years”

In these few months, Maharashtra government has been in trouble over Palghar incident over lynching of Hindu Sadhu’s and Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case. Government is alleged by the opposition of not doing enough for these cases. Also, the government is been under the scanner for mismanagement of COVID19 pandemic.
