Raksha Shakti university (RSU) is the first internal security institute in India established by the government of Gujarat in 2009. It aims at providing education regarding highly professional security and strategic studies in defense. RSU contributes to achieve the time bound completion of goals of self reliance on Defense and strategic resource through its national and international collaboration. The vision of RSU is to provide best public and private security services to the nation.

RSU is coming up with the India’s largest robotic lab, majorly, for the development of unmanned vehicle and drones. The Research and development team is working towards developing drones which are 100% made in India.

Earlier India used to import certain parts from Israel and other countries to get it assembled, but now this revolutionary step by RSU will provide 100% indigenisation of drone and unmanned aerial vehicle technology. The technology will be Indian and hence can cater or alter the exact needs of the army, navy and airforce.

With 22.5% of the world’s unmanned aerial vehicle imports between 1985 to 2014, India ranks first among drone importing nation followed by United Kingdom and France. India’s first UAV delivery came from Israel in 1998. In 2015 defence ministry had purchased 10 missile armed drones from Israel worth 400 million dollars. Made in India drones will not only save a huge amount of money but also provide a strong base of security on our borders.

UAV’s and drones are also referred as pilotless aerial vehicles that are used for surveillance, intelligence gathering and aerial combat mission. The advantage of UAV and drones is that they come at a nominal cost of a manned aircraft with no risk to human life.

By December 2020, RSU will come up with first made in India drone which is a major step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. Also, as per a MOU signed between RSU and Defence of ministry (MOD), RSU will soon also train the naval officers related to Innovation and technology that usually occur outside country. It is also paving the way to create a platform for research and technology innovative training and investment etc. It is a vision of PM Modi who is encouraging India and its universities to become Atmanirbhar in terms of technologies too.
