If we want to nourish a plant that is withering from lack of water, what do we do?
We water the root and through this one simple operation, the entire plant, including the leaves, branches, flowers and fruit will be enriched. The whole plant will grow stronger. Over time, we will be able to witness successive stages of growth.
In the same way, the unified field of natural law that quantum physics has located as the basis of all expressions of change in the universe, is the root of life. Pure consciousness, the most settled, least excited state of human awareness is identical to the unified field. Pure consciousness is the root of life. It is the source of thought. It is a state of inner silence, the simplest, most unified level of life. The inner is the basis of the outer. By attending to, and enlivening the inner level of life, we will observe progressive benefits in all outer, expressed areas of our lives.
The method of bringing nourishment to life from the inside out is through the Transcendental Meditation technique. Numerous research studies conducted in over 33 countries and published in more than 600 peer-reviewed journals document the holistic benefits of this practice. Regular practice of meditation expands the conscious capacity of the mind. It develops broad comprehension and the ability to focus sharply. It develops coherent brain functioning and transforms scattered mental activity into orderly patterns of thinking. It leads to enhanced social relationships and inner happiness and peace.
The way to remove obstacles in life is to use the principle of the second element. That is, when in darkness, we bring in the light. Fighting in the dark will never lead to a positive result. We must let the light of knowledge in and then the darkness will disappear. Consciousness is the light that can remove the darkness. The experience of pure consciousness has the potential to dispel the clouds of ignorance that block our success in life. Pure consciousness is the unified field of all the laws of nature. It is the omnipresent level of life, the source of every transformation in the universe. Max Planck, the father of quantum field theory, compared the universe to a Big Mind! The universe gives rise to an infinite array of expressions of intelligence through a process of self-referral, self-interacting dynamism. Similarly, we materialize and express our ideas through the process of thinking.
If we confront problems in our life, the reason lies in our thinking. Thinking is the basis of action and achievement. Transcendental Meditation opens the mind to the infinite reservoir of creativity, energy and intelligence at the deepest level of consciousness. When we know how to attend to the root of life, we can develop solutions to meet challenging situations in life and not be overwhelmed by them.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of Transcendental Meditation, has said:
“If a man can permanently establish his awareness in contact with that pure field (of consciousness), then problems wither away. It’s a very simple thing. When the light comes, then where is the darkness?”
