Enforcement directorate in Mumbai has remanded Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and will be kept in custody till August 4. After being questioned for six hours in Patra Chawl scam case, Raut defended by saying, that he is being framed. And added that, the entire arrest is to weaken Shiv Sena and Maharashtra.
However, Raut was earlier summoned by ED on July 20, which he disobeyed and reasoned that parliament session is in the play. ED as following the procedure attached Raut’s properties in Dadar and Alibag in the case.
On Sunday morning, ED team showed up at Shiv Sena MP’s residence in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities involving the planning of the chawl.
After the search, ED detained Raut in the evening and began questioning in the matter thereof. While he was taken from his house to the authority’s department, Raut projected himself as a revolutionary under the guise of an accused.
ED seized cash Rs. 11.50 lakh from Sanjay Raut’s residence on Sunday during the raid conducted in the said matter.
Raut was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 and in the all likelihood will be produced before the PMLA court on Monday.
ED had already informed after arresting Pravin Raut in February that, there are name of some influential persons coming in the air.
What’s the case?
ED has been investigating alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 regarding irregularities in the contract and redevelopment of Patra Chawl by Guru Ashish Construction Pvt. Ltd. The company is a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd.
In the connection, Pravin Raut, close associate of Raut was arrested and ED had the property in the name of Varsha Raut attached.
The original contract was agreed as a tri-partite agreement with Maharasthra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) who undertook develop 672 flats for tenants of Patra Chawl in association with Guru Ashish Construction and contracted with the condition to finally sell the remaining area to private developers.
According to ED, Pravin Raut who is one of the directors of Guru Ashish Constructions misled MHADA and sold the FSI to nine private developers in consideration of Rs. 901.79 crore. Neither of the said promises were fulfilled, either the rehab portion for the 672 displaced tenants or the MHADA’s portion.
ED claims that, Pravin Raut received Rs. 100 crore from HDIL and diverted the money to various close associates including Sanjay Raut.
