The former President Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the R&R hospital after testing positive for coronavirus disease Covid-19. He underwent a brain surgery on Monday after a clot was discovered. The condition of the former president had worsened on Tuesday and he had not shown signs of improvement, the doctors attending on him said.

As Mukherjee was shifted to the hospital, wishes for his speedy recovery started pouring in. But self-proclaimed Secular Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai was quick enough to pick fake news and tweeted that Former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away. This is not the first time Rajdeep Sardesai has done such a thing.

Later Rajdeep issued an apology.

Former President Pranab Mukherjee is in a comatose state, but his vital parameters are stable, the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital said on Thursday morning.

His son Abhijit tweeted on Thursday asked people to stop circulating fake news about Mukherjee’s health. “Speculations & fake news being circulated by reputed Journalists on social media clearly reflects that Media in India has become a factory of Fake News,” he said.

Mukherjee’s daughter Shamistha also said that rumours should not be spread about the former President.

An apology from Rajdeep Sardesai couldn’t save him from the heat of netizens.
