In Mumbai, a Muslim youth murdered his Hindu wife by slitting her throat. Initial investigation revealed that the wife had refused to follow Muslim customs and wear burqa in her in-laws’ house. Iqbal Mohammed Sheikh, a resident of Tilak Nagar area of ​​Mumbai, had a love marriage with a 23-year-old Hindu girl named Rupali three years ago. Both of them also have a two year old son.

After marriage, Rupali was being pressurized in her in-laws house to follow Muslim customs and wear burqa. There was a fight between Iqbal and Rupali regarding this. Both were living separately for the last few months. The two used to talk only on the phone. During this period also there were frequent fights.

Police said that the incident happened around 10 pm on Monday night, when Iqbal had gone to console his angry wife. During this time, a fight broke out again between the two regarding Muslim customs. In anger, Rupali talked about getting a divorce. At first Iqbal tried to convince her by citing her son, but when Rupali remained adamant on the issue of divorce, Iqbal dragged Rupali into the street. There he slit his throat with a knife and ran away.

According to media reports, Rupali was Iqbal’s second wife. Iqbal divorced his first wife because he did not have children. After this Iqbal had a love marriage with Rupali. Tilak Nagar Inspector Vilas Rathod said that on Monday, accused Iqbal Shaikh murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a knife. At present he is being interrogated.
