The maneuver for the United Kingdom PM post has further intensified, with Rishi Sunak inching closer to victory in the 4th round of voting.
Rishi Sunak an Indian-origin candidate who has become a strong face in the Ministerial race of United Kingdom is emerging victorious in the fourth round of voting by his party and the members in the Conservative Party, certainly this puts him near to the victory in the race.
In all the probabilities, Rishi Sunak will become the next Prime Minister of the UK, and will succeed party leader Boris Johnson. On Wednesday, Tory MPs will vote for the last time to decide which two candidates should go through to run-off vote among party members.
In the fourth round, Sunak who was former Chancellor, bagged 118 votes by his party colleagues. This makes him a solid struggle for Penny Mordaunt who got 92 votes and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss rests as 86 votes.
After this round, the confirmation has been made of eliminating Kemi Badenoch and making Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, and Liz Truss. Here, Penny Mordaunt and Liz Truss have to battle for second spot.
The final two candidate will be off the veil on Wednesday after fifth round of voting. And at the end of the round, the race will be taken over by the Conservative Party headquarters to organize husting in different parts of UK.
As per the official, the entire race will come to an end on September 5 and the votes for the election 2022 will be counted until the end of August.
About Rishi Sunak, A hindu PM candidate
The 42-year-old Tory MP was born in the UK’s Southhampton to India-origin parents. Rishi’s father was a general practitioner for the National Health Service and his mother used to run a local pharmacy. However, Rishi’s grandparents were born in Punjab and had migrated to East Africa, before coming to Britain in the 1960s.
He studied at prestigious Oxford University and Stanford University where he received his MBA degree. He had worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and various hedge funds. In 2009 Rishi Sunak married Akshata Murthy, the heir of Narayan Murthy, owner of Infosys.
Rishi Sunak’s political career began in 2015 and elected as MP for Richmond, Yorkshire. His career impeccably got the heights when he was made a junior minister in former UK PM Theresa May’s government. In 2019, Sunak was rewarded with the post of Chief Secretary to the Treasury when he backed Boris Johnson’s Tory leadership election. And after a cabinet reshuffle, Sunak promoted to Chancellor of the Exchequer.
