It was not surprising to read on the front page of leading newspapers in India on 27th August that Esmeralda Upton, a Mexican American woman hurled abuses at four Indian ladies who were returning to the parking lot from a restaurant. Hold on, I will tell you why I was not surprised but in fact pleased by this report in a bit.

The Mexican woman had the cheek to say ‘we don’t want you here. Go back to India. You curry assed people are ruining this country!’

When asked why did she walk up to them uninvited and speak, she said ‘Because I hate you f****** Indians that is why.’ When Indian woman started recording this on her phone camera she hit out and tried to snatch the phone and yelled ’you stop recording’.

When the women dialed 911 and police arrived Mexican woman was still shouting ‘These f****** Indians come to America because they want a better life. Everywhere I f****** go I find you Indians f****** everywhere.’ Having realized she would be in trouble as police had also arrived she wanted to shake hands and make amends but was rightly rebuffed by Indian women.

Let us be clear that economic inequality, rural poverty, significantly lower wages, and better opportunities have also played a role throughout the 20th century as factors pulling Mexicans to migrate to the US. And Esmeralda thinks Indians alone come to America for a better life. But Indians contribute to America too- in a big way. They do much better than other migrants.

This happened on Wednesday 24th August at Plano, a Dallas suburb with a sizeable Indian population. The video went viral and police arrested this woman 20 hours later.

Oh my God look at the audacity of hope, that people would believe a Mexican when Americans under POTUS Donald Trump was ready to spend billions to build a border wall to stop Mexicans to infiltrate into America.

On January 25th, 2017 he signed an executive order calling for the construction of a border wall, which could rise some 40 feet (12 meters) high and stretch across 1,000 miles. He also wanted to make Mexico pay for the project.

Some private citizen groups had also been established to apprehend immigrants crossing illegally into the United States.

Mexican citizens leaving their country to seek the American Dream has become a migration problem, which has prompted legal actions. This is one of the most obvious reasons for US government cracking down on them.

I felt good reading this news in media, I will tell you why.

‘When someone is so very jealous of you, it means you have arrived’.

Yes Indians are not only everywhere in America, they are everywhere in the world. We contribute to the national economy where ever we go. Indians have brains, our IITs and IIMs produce the best human resource. They are sincere, hardworking and better than the best local talent, that is why the demand. Our doctors serve Americans too. They are best doctors. Indian-origin physicians account for at least 29.5% of the total physician population in the US.

It is noteworthy that India provides the largest number of International Medical Graduates to the US in absolute numbers. India has been an important source of medical doctors for foreign countries since the 1960.

Indians are occupying top gun positions in America Inc. too.

You could sample these few top notch names. Sundar Pichai: CEO, Google & Alphabet INC. Arvind Krishna – CEO, IBM Group. Satya Nadella – CEO, Microsoft. Shantanu Narayen – CEO, Adobe Inc. Ajaypal Singh Banga – CEO, Mastercard.

The list is long.

Not only this we have a fair share of contribution in NASA too. The Indian-Origin Scientists behind Nasa’s James Webb Space Telescope are pride of India. The $10 billion telescope is considered to be the most powerful space science telescope ever built.

Behind the telescope were three Indian-origin scientists – Hashima Hasan, Kalyani Sukhatme, and Kartik Sheth.

Oh Mexicans have a reason to be upset with Indians who are doing so well in America.

If Mexicans in America hate Indians, then Americans don’t love Mexicans in any case.

In 2019, there were about 10.9 million Mexican-born individuals living in the United States. In comparison, according to data from the 2018 American Community Survey which is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau—there are 4.2 million people of Indian origin residing in the United States. They are double our number and I can’t say how many top doctors or corporate honchos out of 11 million are.

Not only the government but the people at large don’t like Mexicans.

I Hate f****** Mexicans – The Flea Theater- a play written by Luis Enrique Gutiérrez Ortiz Monasterio is a testimony to this sentiment and it got rave reviews. One given below

“I Hate f****** Mexicans doesn’t just offer up stereotypes for stereotypes’ sake. Every f****** word counts. This pointed and playful commentary on stereotypes – particularly of immigrants – feels incredibly relevant with the upcoming November elections. The Flea is to be congratulated for such a bold and wildly entertaining production.” – Stage and Cinema

Another cheeky one

It is so caustically ironic as to be almost cathartic…the accumulated effect of so much ignorance in the mouths of such abject abusers is self-deflating and seemingly funny…the play scores a tangible knockout” – Exeunt

My parting shot

We just celebrated our 75th Independence Day on 15th August. Today the entire Europe is heading for a cold winter, a cold recession is looming large, war clouds galore, even a nuclear war and China is flexing ballooned muscles with its economy in bad shape. America is facing a geopolitical Hara Kiri. Many developed countries have food shortages and food stores are partly empty.

India is chugging along in these tough times, we see no such problems and of course God is with us.

I am so glad even the Mexicans don’t like us.

This is a ratification of the fact ‘that we have arrived.’

Jai ho.
