Once again a Hindu has been publicly beheaded in Bangladesh. The name of the deceased is Borun Ghosh and he was a local worker of Bangladesh’s ruling party Awami League. The Awami League candidate had to face defeat in the recently held parliamentary elections on the seat where Borun was murdered.

The incident occurred on January 9, 2024, around 7 pm. The killers dragged Borun Ghosh out of his house in Ghoshpara area of Jhenaidah district and then chopped off his leg. After this he was murdered. After committing the murder, all the murderers fled. No one has been arrested yet in this case.

BD News24 has reported in its report that 42 year old Borun Ghosh was thrown out of his house and his leg was amputated. Neighbors took him to the hospital, but he was declared dead. Sadar police station in-charge Shaheenuddin said that the Awami League worker has been murdered by miscreants.

Attacks on religious minorities, especially Hindus, are common in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. There Islamic groups target temples and Hindus in rural areas. However, Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government has cracked down on extremist forces. Despite this, violence against minorities continues.
