Press Trust of India broke the news the Delhi Police has named CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav, economist Jayati Ghosh and Delhi University professor Apoorvanand in a supplementary charge sheet in North East Delhi riot cases, which claimed more than 50 innocent lives in February accusing them of “provoking and mobilising” anti-CAA protesters.

The names of the accused appeared in the supplementary charge sheet on basis of Pinjra Tod members’ statements. They are JNU students Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, and Jamia Milia Islamia student Gulfisha Fatima, who are facing charges under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Delhi Police has claimed that Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal admitted to not just their complicity in the riots but also named Ghosh, Apoorvanand and documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy as their mentors, who allegedly asked them to carry out the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and go to “any extreme”.

It was mentioned in the chargesheet the two JNU students said that they organised the Daryaganj protest in December and the Jafrafad chakka jam (road block) against the CAA on 22 February, 2020 at the behest of Ghosh, Apoorvanand and Roy.

After Sitaram Yechury, Yogendra Yadav, Jayati Ghosh and Apoorvanand were named in supplementary chargesheet—who had once supported भारत की बर्बादी तक जंग रहेगी जारी (The war would continue till India turns into ruin) as freedom of expression—Left Eco system swung into action. According to them, Democracy in India declined into danger. Freedom of expression was gaged. Leftist propaganda portal THE WIRE took no time to run the story Delhi Police Spreads Riots ‘Conspiracy’ Net, Drags In Eminent Academics and Activists. Those who were named in supplementary chargesheet were glorified as eminent personalities, Academics and Activists to create guilt trip in common masses.

However, the same Left Eco system with Left Leaning media applied double standard when they ran a media trial against Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, and army officer Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, who had been arrested on 24 October and 4 November 2008 respectively without they were named in chargesheet.

There had been a cloud over the investigations from the time they were launched. The entire investigation was aimed at raising the ‘saffron terror’ alarm that never existed. The Army had conducted its own court of inquiry of Colonel, which had also acquitted its officer. Throughout the nine years of his imprisonment, the Army neither suspended him nor terminated his services, which proves the officer was innocent.

However, before chargesheet was filed on January 20, 2009, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, and army officer Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit had been brutally tortured. Sadhvi Pragya says, “she was mercilessly beaten from day one by her interrogators, using a belt with a wooden handle that made her nervous system go numb. Male police officials took turns to torture her, they beat her day and night, and wanted her to confess that she had carried out Malegaon blast. Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit underwent same torture.

In 2013, the case was transferred to the NIA from MCOCA. In 2016, The NIA submitted its own chargesheet, wherein it discharged Pragya Thakur and five others, and revoked MCOCA.

What would be the reaction of Left leaning Media when Sitaram Yechury, Yogendra Yadav, Jayati Ghosh and Apoorvanand were subjected the same inhuman torture of third degree much before they were named in supplementary chargesheet in Delhi riot cases, what acquitted Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, and army officer Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit underwent?
