Atrocities against Hindus are frequently featured in news and media headlines, prompting many Pakistani Hindus to travel to India, where they begin their fight for Indian citizenship. Because of the actions made by the Gujarat government, comparable Hindu refugees are easily obtaining Indian citizenship, for example, the Ahmedabad District Collector has granted Indian citizenship to 1032 Hindu exiles since 2017.
Continuing the Gujarat government’s efforts, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi granted Indian citizenship to 40 additional Hindu exiles from Pakistan. It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are constantly working to provide Indian citizenship to the small minority Hindu refugees from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The Home Minister of Gujarat greeted the Pakistani Hindus who became Indian citizens and urged them to work together in fulfilling the ideal of New India and cooperating in the country’s development journey in a speech to lakhs of people. For these exiled Hindus from Pakistan, this opportunity was special and important because after getting citizenship, now they will get all the rights as citizens of India and they will also be able to take advantage of all the schemes of the government.
According to Anwar Syed, professor emeritus of political science at the University of Massachusetts, writing on ‘The State of Minorities’ in Pakistan’s newspaper the Dawn on June 18, 2006, Karachi has a well-established community of affluent Hindu businessmen, public servants, and professionals numbering around 70,000. Around 60 Hindus were forced to flee their houses and seek sanctuary in a cow enclosure in Memon Goth, Karachi, in July 2010 when powerful tribesmen in the neighborhood protested against the youngster drinking water from a cooler near a mosque.
Violence and crimes against Sindh’s minority population have been ongoing for many years, but the Hindu minority is increasingly being treated as if they are animals. Kidnapping their females and sexually abusing their young children has violated all lines of humanity, rendered easy by the oppressed Hindu minorities’ ‘untouchable’ position. Pakistan gets enormous help from British taxpayers, money that is essentially used to ethnically cleanse the country of its indigenous minority with complete impunity.
In February 2012, approximately 200 Hindus left Pakistan when 19-year-old Rinkle Kumari was kidnapped from her hamlet of Mirpur Mathelo in Pakistan’s Ghotki region and forcefully converted and married. Her abductors had powerful political connections and after two months the country’s Supreme Court ruled against her parents. Kidnappings, rapes, forcible conversions, and constant harassment are therefore a daily routine for Hindus who dare to remain in their homeland of Pakistan and suffer the humiliation of being third-class citizens and subhumans in the eyes of the majority and legal system.
Vijanti Meghwar, a six-year-old girl, was violently raped on December 4, 2012, in Ghulam Nabi Shah village, district Taluka Pithoro Umerkot, Sindh province of Pakistan. Vijanti is a member of the country’s minority Hindu community, the Meghwar. She was discovered unconscious in the street. Such horrible conduct was made easy by the fact that the Meghwars are Hindus, rendering them impotent and defenceless in the face of widespread hatred and hate.
According to a survey conducted by Chander Kumar Kohli, vice-president of the Pakistan Hindu Seva in 2011-2012, Scheduled caste Hindus (Dalits) are hesitant to allow their girls to study even in primary schools because they believe there is insecurity in teaching girls, i.e., whenever they go to school, they become a part of society and are abducted without fault and converted to another religion. Some survey respondents also stated that they do not allow their daughters to attend school because they work to pick grass for their cattle.
Dr. Haresh Chopra, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in parliament, told the Times of India on August 28, 2012, that these incidents were becoming more common. He further said that there are organized gangs of mullahs and terrorists, who even abduct minor girls of minority communities and procure their age certificates with Muslim names from madrassas proving them adults.
