Defense Manufacturing is a sector that has started reaping unprecedented benefits since the Modi Government has opened this space for private players. Now, we have hundreds of Startups, SMEs, and large organizations, which are developing world-class solutions for the Indian Armed forces.

Gurgaon-based VNL (Vihaan Networks Ltd) has successfully launched a field-proven, terrain-specific, multi-layered, border management solution. It is an indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured perimeter security system and portable Smart-ISR for protecting borders, security bases, and camps.

India is surrounded by international borders that have widely different terrain and the environment from each other. No other country is witness to a wide scale of diversity in its border environment, and the challenges that come with it are unique in themselves.

It is quite complex to design and develop a solution that can be well-integrated across the diversity of our borders, yet deliver security and protection within the purview of a specific border terrain.

VNL’s border management solutions are tailored to work across a wide variety of terrains, and take into account the Indian border’s power supply challenges. The solution works on 100% solar energy for an uninterrupted power supply so that there is zero probability of power loss and perimeter security operations keep running round the clock.

It can pick up any wireless activity, and any type of intrusion – be it human, vehicular, or device intrusion – can be detected and deterred by the vast array of sensors and cameras that make up the most active layers of the entire solution.

It comes with a three-layer approach to not just deter an intrusion, but also pre-empt an intrusion at the border with a day and night monitoring and detection mechanism, VNL’s border management solution is truly cut out for the specifics of India’s borders and its many challenges.

Well, this is an indication of the success of opening up the Defense sector for private players and the Government’s emphasis on the ‘Make In India’ program. We are pretty much sure that such initiatives will turn India into a net-defense exporter in the future.
