Why this Kumbh Mela in West Bengal held after 7 centuries is seen as rise of Hinduism in the state

  • The holy Tribeni snan could be resumed due to the intitiative taken by Kartick Maharaj of the Bharat Sevasram Sangha and was crowd funded by the NRIs.

Tribeni is a town in Hooghly district which was famous in the seventies and eighties for the company, Tribeni tissues that shut shop courtesy disruption of work & agitation by the Leftist Trade Unions. However, Tribeni’s claim to fame was for a different reason, at least 7 centuries ago.

As the name suggests, Tribeni is situated on the banks of the three sacred rivers, Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati, similar to Prayagraj. It is here that the river Bhagirathi Hooghly one of the two main tributaries of the river Ganga, splits into three more distributaries – Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati.

The town of Tribeni was also known for the holy Kumbh snan and fair at the confluence of the said three holy rivers, during the reign of the Sen Dynasty in Bengal. It is believed that the “Yukta Veni” (connected) of Prayagraj becomes “Mukta Veni” (disentangled) in Tribeni Sangam, Hooghly. However, due to the changing course of the river, Ganga, in the Gangetic delta marked with high geological activity, the Yamuna river has disappeared and the stream of Saraswati has thinned down, currently. But that did not dampen the spirit of the hindu devotees to perform the Kumbh Snan here.

When the Sen empire was nearing it’s end, Bengal faced a series of Islamic invasions and one Turkish invader, Zafar Khan Gazi invaded Bengal, entered Tribeni and destroyed the Vishnu Temple there in 1298CE, building a mosque above the ruins of the ancient hindu temple – a feature which is typical of the Islamic invaders.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the term ‘Gazi’ is a title awarded to those Islamists who are successful in killing as many ‘kafirs’ (Non believers) as possible. Hence we can ascertain the degree of his barbarism. If one takes a look around the mosque built by Khan, one would clearly notice the Hindu architecture in the form of numerous hindu deities and Vishnu’s Dashavatar on a stone slab inside the mosque. The doorway’s of the mosque too, resemble Hindu Vaishnav architecture.

A lot of the figures engraved on the walls have their faces disfigured to hide the fact that the instant mosque was actually a Hindu temple. In leftist liberal infested Bengal, no one ever thought of restoring the said temple, rather they are extremely happy with the presence of this mosque, which stands out as a manifestation of Hindu plunder by the monstrous Islamic invaders, considering it as being part of their culture ( study the reviews by the travel crazy Bengalis about the mosque to verify the truth of this statement). That is how far removed from their civilizational identity Bengal’s Hindus are.

The Tribeni snan (bath in the holy Tribeni ) was discontinued totally from 1399 CE with the dominance of Islamic rule in Bengal. Hence it was a pleasant surprise to the practicing Hindus that they were able to take a holy dip at the confluence of the three revered rivers on the 12th and 13th of February, at Tribeni after a mammoth span of 703 years. The Kumbh Mela is also being held at the site.

The holy Tribeni snan could be resumed due to the intitiative taken by Kartick Maharaj of the Bharat Sevasram Sangha and was crowd funded by the NRIs. After running from pillar to post, the West Bengal Govt. was finally compelled to grant permission for the event just five days before it was supposed to commence.
The instant program was inaugurated with the auspicious sound of conch shells and recitation of the Aditya Hridoy Stotram on 13th February. The program was attended by a large number of seers, monks, bauls or roaming minstrels, people from the Matua community – the followers of Thakur Harichand and Thakur Guruchand, members of various Hindu religious groups and other devotees who had started congregating from the 12th of February.

The Mahapunyasnan was performed in the morning of 13th February (Sunday) and was followed by a ritual of Fire Sacrifice, to usher in World Peace (Vishwa Shanti Yagna). Ganga Aarti, Mahaprasad distribution and Bhajan Kirtan were part of the evening programme, in line with the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj.

The entire event was carried on following the Covid protocols.

The Kumbh Mela at Tribeni after 7 centuries will help the cause of Sanatani Renaissance in Bengal, a state which has sunk deep into the dungeons of destructive leftist ideology nearly 5 decades back, thus moving the state away from it’s ethnicity and civilizational identity. The endeavor of the Bharat Sevasram Sangh and the nationalist NRIs is indeed commendable for taking this step in the right direction. The Hindus of Bengal sincerely hope for a continuity of the event.
