America is geared up for Presidential election and the campaigning is heating up with each passing day. On one hand Republicans are asking for vote for their policies and their good relations with India and Indian PM Modi, Democrats also trying to woo Indo-American population by making Indian origin Kamala Harris as the nominee for Vice President post.
However, right from the very beginning this act is boomeranged on Democrats. The latest example is of Kamala Harris’s niece Meena Harris, who tweeted a meme, where Kamala Harris is sitting atride a lion, that has Joe Biden’s face and she is vanquishing an evil Donald Trump.
Meena Harris, Kamala’s niece had taken to Twitter on October 17 stating that the “first day of Navaratri was LIT”, which was an absolute insult of Hindus and Indo-American community.
As expected, this highly offensive tweet has received heavy backlash from Indian and NRI’s, who vociferously condemned the derogatory mocking of Hindu Goddess ‘Durga’ and hurting Indian’s sentiments. Eventually the outrage of Indians compelled Meena to delete this offensive tweet, however she never tender an apology for hurting the sentiments of Indians, that too on the very first day of auspicious Navratri festival.
Here it is important to note that many Indian-Americans and several of Kamala Harris’ supporters has launched an online campaign in protest against the mispronunciation of the Democrat vice presidential candidate’s name by fellow Republican Senator David Perdue.
David said “KAH’-mah-lah? Kah-MAH’-lah? Kamala-mala-mala? I don’t know. Whatever,” he told thousands of his supporters during an election rally in Macon City in Georgia. However, the same Democrats are keeping mum on gross offensive tweet against Hindu Goddess.
We hope Indo-American Hindus call out this disgusting tweet by Meena Harris and force Kamala Harris and Joe Biden to tender an apology to Hindus. We also expect President Donald Trump should raise this issue. Indo Americans should keep these tweets in mind while voting, we should never choose these people who are Hindus by names but never leave any opportunity to defame Hindus and India.
