A hypothetical conversation took place recently in a packed court room, in which an accused was presented before the Hon’ble Justice. Leading legal lights like Dushyant Dave, Ms. Jai Singh, Phoolka were racing up and down the court room. Innocence of the girl and victim card is played loudly and continuously like daily Azzan 5 times a day. Disha Ravi, who is a graduate from the tony Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru, was picked up for questioning on February 13. It may be noted that this school gives admission to all minorities, whether that have marks which are cut off. Incidentally, my wife is also an alumnus from this college.

The celebrity accused Disha Ravi is a Christian from Kerala and original name is Disha Ravi Joseph. Disha, Shantanu, and Nikita created and edited the toolkit. The arrest of Disha Ravi, and the initiation of criminal proceedings / investigations against Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk are a direct attack on the right of dissent and protest. The absurd allegations against them are clearly and blatantly politically motivated. The attempt is to intimidate and brow-beat not just these two individuals, but every citizen who holds an opinion that differs from the ruling dispensation and force them into silence and acquiescence.
This is made clear by the completely illegal manner in which Ms. Ravi, a young lady who is only 21 years old, was arrested by the Delhi Police in Bangalore, outside their territorial jurisdiction, and taken to Delhi in utter disregard of the law. She was then denied effective legal representation. These are not just random acts, they are an abuse of power calculated to carry out a pre-meditated design.
The principles of democracy and the values of our Constitution call for protecting the rights of minorities – this applies with as much force to ideological minorities. The actions of the Delhi police make a mockery of these values. The actions of the Magistrate in remanding Ms. Ravi into police custody for five days demonstrates a failure to check executive excesses and is an abdication of duty.

People like Disha Ravi Joseph, discredit the climate change movement and farmer rights advocacy by incipiently pursuing their own insidious and malicious intentions to advance a separatist agenda. She also totally eroded Greta Thunberg’s moral capital in the process. Activism should serve as conduit that transmogrifies the society through the persuasion of change. It is not a tool which people can use to further a dubious agenda.
