The Chief Justice of India was speaking during a celebration for Marathwada Mukti Sangram Din, the 75th anniversary of the Marathwada Liberation Day. Justice Chandrachud discussed the significance of the Marathwada liberation movement throughout his speech.

Despite the fact that Hyderabad, which was ruled by the Nizam, and other princely states refused to join the Union of India, India was released from colonial authority on August 15, 1947. People revolted against the Nizam, and a liberation movement for Marathwada began to take hold. The populace was the target of merciless atrocities. Numerous people gave their lives in order to free Marathwada. The Indian government started a military operation called Operation Polo in the midst of the uprising.
