The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed a clash of ideologies on Sunday, November 5, 2023, igniting debates and concerns about the campus atmosphere. Anti-Hindutva and pro-independence slogans reverberated within the institution, leading to a confrontation between students associated with differing political leanings.

Allegations from ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) workers suggest that they were subjected to attacks while attempting to halt the sloganeering. The incident has escalated, prompting the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against a total of 17 named and unnamed individuals reportedly involved.

The accused students have been linked to the leftist All India Students’ Association (AISA), indicating a clash between ideological factions within the campus community. This clash, rooted in differing political beliefs, has once again brought the issue of ideological polarization in educational institutions to the forefront.
