In a distressing incident that shook the tranquility of a community, an elderly Muslim man was caught attempting to exploit a 10-year-old girl. The courageous young girl bravely fought back and managed to escape from the harrowing situation. However, what followed further highlighted the dire need for collective vigilance and unwavering commitment to justice.

Upon witnessing the unsettling episode, Imran, a member of the community, advised the traumatized girl to consider it as a bad dream and to forget the distressing ordeal. His response, although potentially well-intentioned from his perspective, raises crucial questions about the handling of such egregious acts and the responsibilities of society in protecting the vulnerable.

It is undeniable that Imran’s suggestion to dismiss such a traumatic event trivializes the gravity of the situation. Encouraging the victim to erase such a distressing experience from memory does not address the underlying issue of abuse nor does it contribute to preventing such atrocities from occurring in the future. Rather, it perpetuates a culture of silence and undermines the imperative need for justice and protection.
