Brahmastra, also known as Brahmstra in Sanskrit, was a weapon designed by the creator Brahma to uphold Dharma and Satya (truth).
Except for Brahmadanda, a stick that Brahma himself also made, neither a defence nor a counterattack could stop the Brahmastra when it was released.
It could only be used once each day to eliminate an adversary who could not be vanquished by any other means. It could only be summoned by the user after intense concentration and meditation on its creator. Even more potent than the Brahmastra, Brahma had invented a weapon known as the Brahmastra, which was only known to Dronacharya, Aswatthama, Arjuna, and Karna during the Mahabharata War and possessed potency comparable to the Brahmastra.
Additionally, Brahmastra seriously harms the ecosystem. For many decades, the ground where it falls becomes barren, rendering both men and women sterile there. The vegetation will go, the rains would decrease, and the earth would start to break as in a drought.
People in that area will be genetically impacted, and the following few generations will produce infants with birth defects.
All of these descriptions suggest that Brahmstra was a nuclear bomb since the consequences resemble those of Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War.
Puranas and epics frequently mention the use of Brahmastra.
- Viswamitra employed it against Vasishta, but since Vasishta was a brahmarshi, Brahmadanda absorbed the Brahmastra (rishi capable of alternate creation like brahma).
- In the Ramayana, Rama attempted to utilise it to clear a path through the water so that the Vanara army might advance against Lanka. But Samudra (the ruler of the oceans) showed up and informed Rama of the technical difficulties with firing the weapon while pleading with him not to dry out the ocean and wipe out all of its inhabitants.
- Rama then directed it at Dhrumatulya, where it struck and turned what is now Rajasthan into a desert.
- Later, Rama made the decision to construct the bridge that connects India and Sri Lanka today.
- Hanuman was being captured by Indrajit using Brahmastra as he was destroying Ashok Vatika after finding Seetha.
- It was countered when Indrajit employed it against Lakshmana as well.
- Both Arjuna and Aswatthama invoked Brahma Astra during their fight in the Mahabharata, but their combined strength would have extinguished all life on earth. Veda Vyas stepped in and ordered them to put their guns down. In order to strike Arjuna’s unborn grandchild (Parikshit), who was still in his mother’s womb, Aswatthama redirected the attack. Arjuna could have called it back, but he had no knowledge how to do so.
- This calling back of the weapon after use or withdrawal from it has a boomerang-like quality.
Numerous weapons, including the Agneyastra, Brahmastra, Garudastra, Kaumodaki, Narayanastra, Pashupatastra, Shiva Dhanush, Sudarshana Chakra, Trishul, Vaishnavastra, Varunastra, and Vayavastra, are mentioned in the puranas and vedas; however, the trishul, Sudarshana Chakra, and the Brahmastra are the most potent.
Gayatri Mantra invokes and energises Brahmastra – Nuclear Missile.
Gayatri Mantra releases Brahmastra, but in a different method. By meditating and spelling the Gayatri Mantra in the exact opposite order of its syllables, you can energise any weapon or even a straw made of grass.
Viloma is the name for this style of mantra recitation (normal way is anuloma). The combined effect of anuloma-viloma chanting increases the strength of that mantra, hastening the sadhaka’s ascension to siddhi.
Why can’t everyone who understands the Gayatri mantra unleash Brahmastra if it is so straightforward?
