The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 16, 2024) gave permission to the Hindu side to clean the place of Shivalinga located in the disputed Gyanvapi structure of Varanasi. This place is called Wujukhana (water tank) by the Muslim side, where the face, hands and feet are washed after offering Namaz. Shivalinga was found from here during the survey in May 2022. Now cleaning will be done here in the presence of DM of Varanasi.

The Hindu side had made a demand before the Supreme Court for cleanliness of the Shivling place in Gyanvapi in the hearing held on January 12, 2024. The Hindu side said that this water tank has been sealed after the Shivalinga was found here. Due to being sealed, it has not been cleaned and the fish present in it have died. Due to this foul smell is spreading.

The Hindu side said that the fish died here between 12 and 25 December 2023. This has created a lot of dirt here. Where the fishes have died, there is a Shivalinga which is worshiped by Hindus. Out of reverence this area should be kept clean. That is why cleaning should be allowed here. The Muslim side did not oppose this petition for cleanliness.

According to reports, the Hindu side has blamed the Anjuman Islamia Committee of the mosque for the death of the fish. The Hindu side said that Anjuman Islamia Committee is in charge of the management of this entire complex. Therefore, keeping this in mind, permission should be given to clean that place.
