The long-anticipated consecration of the Ramlala idol in Ayodhya brought forth a wave of renewed discussions, but unfortunately, it also stirred the embers of political discord. As the nation witnessed the manifestation of the Ram temple, the divisive voices from the Congress party and its allies resurfaced, injecting controversy into an event of profound cultural and religious significance.

Former Karnataka minister and Congress leader, H Anjaneya, recently drew sharp attention by likening Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Lord Ram. In a statement that might raise eyebrows and stir emotions, Anjaneya remarked, “Siddaramaiah is Ram himself. Then why go to the (Ayodhya) temple and worship that Ram? He is Ram of BJP. BJP does this for publicity. Let them do it.” These words, spoken in Chitradurga, Karnataka, not only attempt to redefine the essence of Lord Ram but also reflect the prevailing political polarization.

Anjaneya said, “Siddaramaiah is Ram himself. Then why go to the (Ayodhya) temple and worship that Ram? He is Ram of BJP. BJP does this for publicity. Let them do it.” He said this while talking to the media in Chitradurga, Karnataka. He was questioned about not inviting Siddaramaiah to the consecration ceremony.

Simultaneously, another Congress leader, Udit Raj, added fuel to the fire by labeling the Ram Temple as a resurgence of Manuwad, drawing attention to the controversial aspect of caste hierarchy. This rhetoric attempts to cast a shadow on the temple’s construction by framing it within the lens of caste-based discrimination, a narrative that polarizes public opinion and fuels ideological battles.

Anjaneya’s statement, portraying Siddaramaiah as an embodiment of Lord Ram, carries profound implications. It reflects an attempt to reshape narratives, redefining the spiritual and cultural significance of Lord Ram to suit political convenience. Such politicization not only diminishes the sanctity of religious beliefs but also detracts from the solemnity of the occasion.

The contrasting perspectives between political factions regarding the Ram temple underscore a deeper divide that transcends religious sentiments. While for many, the temple stands as a symbol of faith and unity, for others, it becomes a political battleground, a tool for ideological manipulation and divisiveness
