On October 29, several explosions at a Jehovah’s Witness prayer service at a convention center in Kalamassery, Ernakulam, Kochi district, left 40 people injured and one woman dead. The Government Medical College Hospital received the injured patients right away. According to accounts, firefighters have removed a burned corpse from the scene. There could be more victims. For the investigation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been contacted.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Thirakkakara Baby PV revealed in an interview with News18 that 40 persons were hurt in the explosion, some of them were in serious condition. “The inquiry is ongoing, and all investigating authorities are present at the scene… An examination will determine if this is a bomb explosion or not. Forty-one injured, one dead, and four to five gravely injured. He declared, “The situation is under control.”
There have been seven admissions to the intensive care unit, one of them a child. Nine patients were reportedly moved to Sunrise Hospital in Kakkanad due to their serious conditions. To treat patients suffering from burn injuries, specialized physicians have been summoned from Kottayam Government Medical College to Kalamassery Medical College.
It’s unknown what caused the explosion. There were reportedly about 2,000 attendees of the three-day Jehovah’s Witness convention held at Kalamassery’s Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Centre. Manorama News cited witnesses who stated that there were at least three explosions within the hall.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated, “It’s a very unfortunate incident,” in a statement. We are gathering information on the occurrence. At Ernakulam are all of the senior authorities. DGP is approaching the location. We are giving it our full attention. DGP and I have spoken. After the investigation, we must obtain further information.
Christians who don’t consider themselves Protestants are known as “Jehovah’s Witnesses.” Annual Jehovah’s Witness Conventions are followed by bigger assemblies known as Regional Conventions. Typically, these conventions run from Friday to Sunday for three days. The three-day summit, which began on October 27, ended on Sunday. Because Jehovah’s Witnesses are a distinct Christian sect, other groups frequently target them due to their distinctions.
