Since joining active politics in 1997, Sonia Gandhi has scored impressive victories since she contested from Rae Bareli in 2004 when she won around 58% of the polled votes. In 2009, after Samajwadi Party decided not to field any candidates in Rae Bareli she defeated her nearest BSP rival by over 3.72 Lakh votes. Similarly she retained the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, UPA chairperson won the seat by a margin of more than 4.53 lakh beating BJP’s Ajay Agrawal and managed to improved her margin despite a Modi wave across the country.
But in 2019 Elections even after SP-BSP-RLD ‘gathbandhan’ decided not to field any candidate in the Gandhi Bastion, Sonia Gandhi retained the Lok Sabha seat but saw her victory-margin being halved as compared to five years earlier, winning by 1.67 lakh votes against BJP Dinesh Pratap Singh.
Rahul Gandhi who contested from Amethi since 2004 won the seat by 2.90 Lakh votes and improved his winning margin by 3.70 Lakh votes in 2009 Elections. In the 2014 general election, Rahul Gandhi’s margin of victory fell to a little over 107,000 votes and in the 2017 state assembly elections, the Congress lost in each of the five assembly constituencies in Amethi.
And in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections Smriti Irani dislodged Rahul Gandhi from Amethi winning by margin of 55,000 votes. The party fought the elections at the local level with helping people enrol under the Ayushman Bharat (the PM’s flagship health insurance) scheme, and ensured that farmers received the PM-Kisan money transfers.
The grand old party is in disarray with the workers deserting the party and is no match for well oiled electoral machinery of BJP which dominated and set the narrative on social media and national media. And the Administration of Mahant Yogi Adityanath had ensured the cases of Encephalitis which had troubled the state since three decades have come down. And now he is transforming Uttar Pradesh into spiritual & cultural hub of India. The Monk from Gorakhpur has set eyes to make the state Defense hub of India with developing Defence Corridor of UP & has targetted to become USD 1 trillion dollar economy with defence, aerospace, warehousing, data centres, electrical vehicles, and pharma sector are some of the emerging investment centres.
All these developments have forced Congress Shehzada had to seek the patronage of Indian Union Muslim League to win Wayanad seat in Kerala by over 430,000 votes. And going by trends in Rae Bareli the Secular Mata of UPA will have to seek similar arrangement with Islamic Party in 2024 as the ground reports suggest the party is losing its clout in the seat.
Congress party has opened opened an overseas office in Turkey and the IUML has supported Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decision to convert the erstwhile museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site & 1,500-year-old Orthodox Christian cathedral, the largest Christian church of the eastern Roman Empire into mosque earlier this year.
And the wannabe neo modern era Caliphate will ensure the Roman Mata will emerge victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections asking its followers in India to support the Mother / Son Duo.
With top party leadership seeking support of muslim parties, the covert agenda of Congress minority appeasement will be exposed forcing many Congressmen to abandon the party and switch over to BJP. And all these developments state that the leadership of the party is clueless and the INC is sinking into oblivion. The dynasty are unable to connect to the electorate even in his historically ‘safe’ constituency and the Nehru-Gandhi brand name having lost its appeal, the prospects for the Congress in 2024 & beyond look bleak.
