Vivek was about eight years old. Lived in Chandigarh. One day he left home for school and did not return. Now after eight years he has met Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. His name was changed to ‘Mohammed Umar’.

Vivek has now been handed over to his family. A case has been registered against four people in the matter. These also include a Maulvi, a Maulana, a village head. FIR in this regard was registered on 14 October 2023. It is said that one of the accused has been granted bail, while three are still absconding.

On October 4, 2023, a person named Matloob reached an Aadhar card center in Muzaffarnagar. He asked Mohammad Umar to change the address in the Aadhaar card, claiming to be his son. The person running the center saw the name Vivek, father’s name Virendra Kumar and address Chandigarh on the Aadhar card. When he became suspicious, he informed Jackie Saini, the head of Luhari Khurd village.

The matter of village head Jackie Saini was informed to the police. The police took Vivek into custody and called his family members. Then the matter of Vivek’s religious conversion and keeping him in a madrasa etc. came to light. During interrogation, it was revealed that Vivek’s conversion took place in a madrasa named Jamia Osmania Rehmania located in Rampur Maniharan in Saharanpur district in the presence of the Maulvi there. Afsrul, the head of Naglarai village of Muzaffarnagar, has also been named in this case.

Vivek was kept imprisoned in the madrasa: later after contacting his family members, he was called to Muzaffarnagar. Investigation found that Vivek was forcibly converted to Islam and kept confined in a madrasa. Vivek was kept in the Madrasa and after that he was sent to Faridabad for a few days to learn welding work. But there too, Matloob’s close friends were with him all the time, preparations were being made to send him to Saudi Arabia by making him Mohammad Omar.

The police were notified about Jackie Saini, the village chief. After placing Vivek under arrest, the police called his relatives. Then it was revealed about Vivek’s religious conversion, his incarceration in a madrasa, etc. It was discovered after questioning that Vivek was converted in front of the Maulvi at the Jamia Osmania Rehmania madrasa in Rampur Maniharan, Saharanpur district. In this instance, Afsrul, the leader of Muzaffarnagar’s Naglarai hamlet, has also been named.

Journalist Samar Thakur from Muzaffarnagar claims that there is a family connection between the village chief and the maulvi of the madrasa. After that, Vivek—later known as Omar—was dispatched to Muzaffarnagar. The young individual was allegedly brought from Chandigarh by someone by the name of Matloob, according to the police complaint. In this conversion case, Maulana Mukarram Jamal has been identified as the fourth accused. In response to Virendra’s accusation, the police have filed a formal report (FIR) against the four defendants in accordance with the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act and Section 420 of the IPC.
