SC convicts senior lawyer and former AAP leader Prashant Bhushan for contempt of court. SC lashed out at Bhushan for his derogatory remarks on Twitter against the Chief Justice of India. A bench headed justice Arun Mishra said that it holds Bhushan guilty of maligning the Apex Court and Judiciary’s reputation. The bench will pronounce its verdict against Prashant Bhushan on August 20.

‘It is a matter of serious contempt’, observed the three judge bench in the hearing today. The pronouncement of punishment is scheduled for the next hearing on August 20. The punishment for contempt of court can go up to six months in jail, or fine, or both.

Bhushan had defended his allegedly contemptuous tweets in the court on August 5 following which the apex court had reserved its order. The tweets were made against the judges over their conduct in personal space, argued Bhushan.
