Muslim man from Malwani brought a calf to slaughter alleges VHP, but all their complaints to Mumbai Police fallen on deaf ears

Calf Slaughter Complaint Filed

It has been learnt that a person named Sayyad Ramzan alias Ramzan Paaniwala from Mumbai’s Malvani (Malad) area had bought a calf for Kurbani during the festival of Eid-al-Adha (Bakri Eid) which is to take place on 31st July. The allegation has been made by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) who have filed a complaint against Ramzan Paaniwala on July 23rd, 2020. However, no action was initiated by the police who dismissed the allegation stating that the calf was not brought with the intention of slaughtering it.

Calf

VHP’s complaint states that Ramzan Paaniwala, resident of plot number 61 of New Collector Compound, has bought calf with the intent to sacrifice it on Eid. In addition, Ramzan Paaniwala is a known history-sheeter with several allegations against him including electricity theft. It must be remembered that cows are protected under the Maharashtra Animal Protection Act and since Ramzan Paaniwala does not have a permit to rear cows, action must be taken against him as his act has the potential to stoke communal tensions.

Even after a week, no action has been initiated and as per the available information VHP members have been advised by the police to not take law into their hands. Which begs the question why are the police trying to protect Ramzan?

While the plea to protect cows by VHP have fallen on deaf ears, a picture circulating in social media, the veracity of which couldn’t be verified, provides the numbers of several politicians including NCP’s Nawab Malik and Congress’ Aslam Shaikh where they say to contavt them in case anyone carrying animals for Eid sacrifice faces any issue at check-nakas. It is pertinent to mention here that Malvani is the constituency of Congress leader Aslam Shaikh who is the cabinet minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

The silence of so-called animal welfare organizations such as PETA who give sermons on social media is also deafening.
